Semrush acquires Backlinko to bolster its free digital marketing courses
Backlinko offers free SEO insights and has amassed more than 500,000 monthly organic visits. Its YouTube channel currently has 467,000 subscribers.
Earlier today, Semrush (NYSE: SEMR), a popular SaaS tool to manage online visibility, announced its acquisition of marketing and SEO blog Backlinko for an undisclosed amount. This move aims to strengthen the public firm’s free SEO course called Semrush Academy.
Launched in 2008, Semrush offers a variety of marketing tools that cover SEO, content marketing, and advertising functions. Based on the company’s latest financial reports, the SaaS firm generated US$49.3 million in revenue from 79,000 paying customers in the third quarter of 2021.
Founded in 2012 by SEO expert Brian Dean, Backlinko offers free SEO insights and has amassed more than 500,000 monthly organic visits. The site's YouTube channel currently boasts 467,000 subscribers.
With the acquisition, Dean and his team will join Semrush to develop content for Semrush Academy. There’s no word yet about what may happen to the Backlinko site itself.
“Brian Dean is considered one of the top digital marketing professionals, and we are thrilled to bring him and his team into the Semrush family. Together with our own Semrush Academy, we now offer one of the most robust digital marketing and SEO training resources on the web,” said Andrew Warden, Semrush CMO.
He added, “Digital Marketing expertise continues to be in strong demand for virtually every business, and we know our customers are constantly seeking high-quality education to upskill. We are a company for marketers, by marketers and we want to help those in our community be the best digital marketers they can be.”
Brian added, “Digital marketing and SEO is more relevant and crucial to business success than ever before. Semrush is one of the first places digital marketers turn to when starting their marketing journey, so our joint efforts and combined learning library presents millions of marketers with the opportunity to learn from the best in the industry.”
Semrush Academy offers free digital marketing courses and certifications. It also trains students on how to use the firm's own tools. Semrush claims that more than 500,000 marketers have completed the courses and passed exams.
Alternatives to Semrush Academy include Hubspot Academy and Google Digital Garage. Both firms also offer free digital marketing courses and certifications.
